Cub Foods to open new 'flagship store' in the Twin Cities this week
Cub Foods is preparing to open its new "flagship store" in Burnsville this week.
The longtime store at 1750 County Road 42 closed and was demolished last year, with a new store then constructed on the western side of the land.
The rest of the site was redeveloped to create new commercial space, with Best Buy relocating its Burnsville store to the eastern side of the plot at 1750, opening this past January.
Now Cub Foods and an attached Cub Wine & Spirits is set to open its doors, with a ribbon cutting ceremony booked for Wednesday, May 14, and a grand opening celebration on Thursday, May 15.
What to expect from the new store
Cub, which was for a long time the No. 1 grocery store by market share in the Twin Cities but over the past decade has slipped behind Walmart and Target, says it is offering shoppers a "reimagined shopping experience and store design" in Burnsville, with "upgraded services and expanded departments."
A press release from Cub says the location will have a "bold new store façade and shopper-friendly layout" and an "enhanced produce section with a broader organic assortment."
There will also be a revamped deli section, which will include "grab-and-go meals, hot foods, and a relaunch in partnership with [deli meat provider] Dietz & Watson."
Fresh sushi will be prepared in-house at a new sushi station, and there will be expanded floral, bakery, seafood, meat, kitchen shop, health & beauty, and vitamin shop departments.
Shoppers can also pick up their orders via a drive-through lane, with the store's pharmacy also having a drive-thru option.
The adjacent Cub Wine & Spirits will be "more than four times the size of the previous location," comprising "a vastly expanded selection of beer, high-end wines, and premium spirits; a new tasting bar for sampling, education, and event programming; and interactive displays and enhanced merchandising to support discovery and inspiration."
The grand opening next Thursday will start at 8 a.m. and include performances from the Burnsville Dance Team, the University of Minnesota Dance Team and Marching Band, and an appearance by the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile.
