
Severe storms wreak havoc on Hudson, eastern Twin Cities
Hudson, Wisconsin and eastern Twin Cities communities are dealing with the aftermath of damage caused by storms that moved through the area on Monday.
Heavy rains, strong winds, and large hail arrived in the early evening, causing the most serious damage in Hudson, with the roof blown of an apartment building in of the city, and trees toppled onto cars, buildings, and across streets.
The Hudson YMCA was among the buildings damaged, forcing its closure Monday night, though it was able to reopen at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Xcel Energy said crews were working overnight to restore power for nearly 20,000 customers across the east metro and western Wisconsin.
As of Tuesday morning, 39 outages remained in Hudson with a total of 743 customers impacted and the east metro still has around 43 outages reported with 338 customers affected, according to the company's outage map.
The National Weather Service said wind gusts reached 50 to 60 mph and brought hail to Hudson and parts of the east metro. In Rosemount, hail the size of golf balls fell and 1.75-inch hail (golf balls) was also reported in Hudson.
